Brunswick Day trip: Walk the Lion City

Xiao Wang always took me to listen to podcasts, which gave me the idea of recording my life. Since I came back from Wolfsburg, I have always said that I would have the opportunity to visit Braunschweig, but this trip was almost a walking trip, and I suddenly wanted to go there before Heidelberg, so I went the next day.

A small city in Lower Saxony, Germany, although not large, it is rich in history and culture. I recently went to Brunswick and found the city really charming and fun to have!

For more than a century, Braunschweig has undergone numerous changes and has left many valuable cultural properties and historical monuments.

History, culture, music, food... There is also the iconic simple and leisurely German life, which can be experienced at zero distance in Braunschweig.

After experiencing the rapid development of modern German industry in Hannover and Wolfsburg, you might as well slow down and come to Braunschweig to hear Clara Schumann's moving love in front of the GROTRIAN piano.

The lion is the symbol of Brunswick, and it is also on the city coat of arms. This bronze statue of the lion was cast in 1166. (The original is on display in the museum), it symbolizes the power of Henry the Lion and was the first statue of power erected since Roman times.

The best place to start your city tour is Castle Square. The castle was built in the 19th century and is one of the most important historical sites in Braunschweig. Take a stroll through the gardens around the castle and feel the weight of history! On the castle square in the city center stands a bronze statue of a lion that has experienced more than 800 years of vicissitudes. It is surrounded by the castle of Dan Kwodrode, which was once the palace of Henry the Lion, and the magnificent Romanesque cathedral.

The first planned stop is the Brunswick Castle, which turns out to be a modern shopping center, and the contrast between the exterior and the interior is somewhat unexpected.

Walk along the Braunschweig Rathaus and the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum to the Braunschweigisches Cathedral, which is warm inside. Stroll from the square to the restaurant.

I had planned to eat Rinderroulade German beef rolls at Krackers Kitchen, which was widely recommended in the Little Red Book, but instead of taking Monday off, I went to a Turkish restaurant, which was also highly recommended.

Ordered a signature, enough for two to reach the wall. Although beer is not served, the lamb and chicken are perfectly grilled, the mutton has no taint, tastes much like Chinese kebabs, and the chicken is tender. The scones resembled Xinjiang naan, and the rice was slightly dry but tasty. The only regret was the salad, which tasted a little strange, and I didn't want to eat it again after one bite, but the chili sauce was not bad, except with a bit of acidity.

There is a picture of the lion fountain on the little Red book's guide, but it has never been found anywhere near the above places. Xiao Wang head said I have obsession, but I just think this fountain is very handsome, and finally took me to find it! Xiao Wang Tou famous quote: look in the opposite direction with the great man, looking for different ideas.
