Long ago, merchants from Aachen came to the town of Zell to buy the best Moselle wines. After extensive wine tasting, they have three favorites, all of which are excellent for them. However, even with the best will in the world, they can't decide on a wine. Only another rehearsal can help. They tried one after another, but could not decide which. After tasting these wonderful wines, they were now very drunk.

At the same time, the brewer's black cat had sneaked into the cellar and jumped on one of the three barrels favored by the gentlemen. Now she defends her cat-like spot with a lot of hissing and scratching. The merchants believed that the best wine must be stored exactly in this cask. "So they bought it and took it to Aachen.

In Aachen, the wines of Zell an der Mosel have proved to be the real bestsellers there. Wines from this particular location taste excellent to Aachen people. So the merchants returned to Zell and bought everything they could get their hands on. This is why the wine is named Zeller Schwarze Katz.

In Zell, the name "Zeller Schwarze Katz" has since been used to describe the best vineyards - to this day.

From the photos I took, you can see that the vineyards here are really steep, the temperature difference between day and night is high, and the Riesling white produced here is very explosive in aroma and taste.

German wine trivia: This Black Cat wine label is not used arbitrarily, as Germany stipulates that only a few specific Schwarze Katz vineyards can use this black cat wine logo.
