Use the filter from Monet's Garden to open the Chateau de Maintenon

Accidentally found the small town of Maintenon, and came to a trip that said to go. Unplanned trips can also lead to interesting things, such as meeting newlyweds in the park for wedding photos and seeing wax figures of elephants on the golf course. The freshness is replenished immediately.

📍 Address: 137B Pl. Aristide Briand, 28130 Maintenon.

An hour's ride from Montparnasse to Maintenon, or if you live in the western suburbs of Paris, you can go directly to Versailles chantiers and take the TER. It only takes about half an hour to Maintenon, and the tickets are cheaper. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the castle.

If the weather is good, a picnic in the jardin of the castle is very comfortable, with sun and plenty of shade.

Tickets, which can be bought just for the jardin or include a tour of the castle, are €8.50 and free for those under seven. If you are interested in the history of Madame Maintenon, it is still worth going inside, and there is also a beautiful portrait hall of the De Noaille family (the inherited family of Maintenon Castle). If you just visit the mentality, the interior is very different from other castles.

There are also several restaurants at the castle gate, which are very convenient for eating. There is also a small town near Maintenon chartres, many years ago there was a day trip to the two places at the same time, the impression is very tired, chartres is also very general, there are too many more interesting towns in France than it is worth going to. It feels a lot better to just spend the better part of a day in Maintenon.

🕓 Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday 10:30-18:30, closed on Monday.
💰 : Admission to the castle and gardens: Adults: 8.50€, children (7-18 years) : 4.00 €, 18-25 years: 4.50 €. Garden visit only: 3.00€.

One of the most beautiful castles in France and the private residence of Louis XIV's second wife, Maintenon, it was built in the Middle Ages and has preserved the architecture for hundreds of years. The designer Andre Le Notre is also the garden designer of Versailles. A day trip by car is recommended on weekends.

The castle originally belonged to the Angena family, Marquis of Maintenon, and later became the residence of Madame Maintenon, the mistress of Louis XIV and later his second wife. Another attraction in Maintenon is the ruins of the aqueduct built by Louis XIV to carry water from the River Erle to Versailles.

Crossing the side of the golf course was not an option, we entered the golf course without taking a few photos, the staff inside told us to leave, and there was indeed a wire fence between the castle and the golf course, so it was impossible to reach it directly. So just search the castle and buy a ticket. Although the road was wrong, but still got a good picture.

The small town is perfect for family trips, photography, hiking, or biking.
