Marseille, France: South France is perfect for city walk!

When people think of France 🇫🇷, they immediately think of Paris. It is true that Paris, as a city of romance and art, is full of infinite charm. But when the word "holiday" comes to mind for most French, it is the south of France, with its perfect climate, green mountains, Cote d 'Azur, good food and wine, charming towns and a sense of relaxation in the air.

Here is a summary of the resorts I have been to in southern France, some of which are famous and some of which are small treasures, all of which accompanied me through a wonderful time:

⭕ Main attractions
1️⃣ Vieux Port

In the heart of Marseille, the historic port has many cafes and restaurants, and the walk from the port to the church will pass through the heart of Marseille's scenery and enjoy the beautiful sea view. You can take a cruise and experience the unique charm of the port.

2️⃣ Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde
Located on a hill with panoramic views of Marseille. The interior of the cathedral is richly decorated. Hiking is recommended to enjoy the scenery along the way, especially at sunset.

3️⃣ Le Panier
The oldest neighborhood in Marseille, known for its narrow alleys and colorful buildings. There are many art studios and small shops. Stroll through the neighborhood and visit local artists and craft shops.

4️⃣ Musee des Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Mediterranee, MuCEM
A modern museum showcasing the culture and history associated with the Mediterranean, the building is a work of art in itself. Remember to go to the roof and enjoy the beautiful sea view.

5️⃣ Longshang Palace
The palace is a blend of Baroque, Roman and Oriental architecture. The fountains and sculptures have the feel of an Italian Renaissance. The Marseille Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Natural History are around it respectively and can be visited.

⭕ Recommended routes
D1: Visit the old port and the main church, have a seafood lunch at a restaurant near the port and sample Marseille's local cuisine such as Bouillabaisse; In the afternoon, after a visit to Musse Bona Museum, head to the Basilica of Our Lady of the Guardian for a panoramic view of Marseille at sunset.
D2: Le Panier, enjoy street art and local handicrafts, taste the local cuisine of the neighborhood's small restaurants, and visit the Palais Longchamp and the Marseille Museum of Art/Naturae in the afternoon.
P.S. Marseille is accessible by boat to Iles du Frioul, which offers great natural beauty and time for hiking and sunbathing.

❗ France often has holidays or shortened opening hours, so check attraction opening times and ticket information in advance.
❗ Pay attention to sun protection, especially in summer and autumn, when the sun in southern France is very strong.
