What is an Alpine trombone?

The Alpine trombone has become an irreplaceable symbol of Switzerland. It is not only a musical instrument, but the mountain itself - the shaking of the roots of the mountain, the echo of the memory of the earth, the messenger of the Swiss ancestors.

The Alphorn trombone is one of the traditional Musical Instruments of the Alps. Winter or summer, Alpine trombones resonate with the mountains. A herdsman calls his cattle on his trombone, and the music echoes from valley to valley.

It is a tool for herders to summon their livestock, or to convey information in the mountains. Its rich music also has a calming effect on animals-as early as the late 16th century, glass paintings show an Alpine trombone playing to soothe dairy cows.

Over time, the Alpine trombone almost disappeared as a musical instrument used by Swiss herders. It was not until the 19th century, when Romanticism became popular and folk customs and tourism revived, that the Alpine trombone was reborn. Today, the Alpine trombone has become an important symbol of Switzerland.
