Living in the city for a long time, I believe many people have such a dream: to build a farm of their own, and every day with small animals carefree life. If you have this idea, you will be very envious of the following uncle, uncle named Mert Akkok, lives in Istanbul, Turkey.
Mert said that he has loved animals since he was a child and dreamed of one day owning a private farm to house animals in need, and just a few months ago, his dream finally came true! Mert said that now that he is in middle age, he can finally afford to open a private animal shelter to help homeless animals.
Friends who are familiar with Turkey know that in Turkey, it is not allowed to kill stray animals or put them in shelters for life. The government will sterilize and vaccinate stray animals, and then put them back on the streets. So in Turkey, we can see a lot of stray animals.
Having so many stray dogs roaming around may sound like a bad thing, but since these precious creatures are protected by Turkish law, they are actually treated very well. In fact, the locals really enjoy taking care of them.
Mert finds himself wanting to adopt every animal he meets... He often does that. Mert said: "But some of them were dumped outside the city because there were so many. These animals are having a lot of trouble surviving." He helps the animals on his farm, which are almost always disabled or elderly, by treating them and bringing them home if the vet says an animal needs special care. "They're like my children." Mert creates safe Spaces for these stray animals. Now Mert's farm has 23 dogs, three cats, 46 disabled gulls, two sheep, a blind horse and three geese, each with a long story to tell. Mert even has 46 disabled seagulls, which one might think is unusual and just a few days ago Mert adopted a cute little donkey! The animals he lived with were abandoned, injured, sick or old. Some animals are blind, some have no feet or wings, and some are old or very sick.
"I'm not going to give them to anyone who wants them," he said. "They're like my children now. I can only give them to decent and kind people who will take good care of them."
Mert also opens up some rooms in his home to his animals. In cold weather, Akkok's dogs can sleep on the first floor of the house. In addition, Acock reads books with his dogs by the fireplace, listens to music, talks to them and tells them stories, and his canine friends listen to him with their ears.
After moving from the city to the village, Acok bought a car suited to the terrain, and every day he put the dogs in his truck and took them out into the forest for walks and games with them.
In an interview, Mert said that he used to live in Yuskudar and that his love for nature and animals came from his childhood.
Mert, who said he rescued three dogs from the street at his former house, said: "The garden of that house was in a complex and it was small and I thought I was starting to disturb our neighbours. As time went by, my dog count increased to 5 and I decided that from then on it would be more convenient for my dog and my neighbors to live outside the city. After making this decision, I moved to a village east of Istanbul.
Emphasizing that he tries to provide as much comfort and freedom as possible for his animal friends, which he loves so much, Mert continued:
"I'm enjoying it. I gave up some of the comforts of my city life for the sake of my animal friends, but I'm not complaining. My dear friends, everyone who has gone through great difficulties before meeting me is very comfortable here. When I moved to the village, I moved my business to a community close to here. Since I own my own business, it wasn't difficult. I commute from here every day. All the animals I live with in my home are abandoned, neglected animals that I try to find and save when I am in a very difficult situation. My animal-loving friends knew I was looking at seagulls, and they brought me disabled seagulls they found around the city, and their numbers increased in a very short time. I created a living space for them in the garden of my home.
Although Mert still has his own company to run, he still takes time to visit the farm every day to make sure the animals are in good health, so the little ones on the farm are familiar with him and like him. In fact, he kind of fell in love with that passion by accident when he found himself often caring for homeless animals on weekends. Mert set up a page for his farm, which soon attracted tens of thousands of followers. Everyone expressed envy: this is a fairy tale world!
Many fans expressed their willingness to volunteer to help the farm, but were refused by Mert, who said that the farm has professional staff and breeders responsible for taking care of the small animals. Not only that, Mert also said that if you encounter a small animal in trouble, you can send it to his farm, there is plenty of room for more animals!
Seeing here, whether it is Turkey's animal protection policy or Mert's farm, people can not help but sigh: how envious! And for people who like animals, it is really a super happy thing to help small animals by their own ability!
He is a loving dad to all animals and they are so lucky to have him! He is such a hero, and we need more like him!
