📍 Calpe is a coastal resort town in the southeast of Spain, close to Alicante and Valencia. The Red Walls of La Muralla Roja are built on a hillside on the edge of the town of Calpe, facing the sea.
The Calpe Monolite is a 332-meter-high rock on the white Coast of Spain. It is located in the northern part of the "Costa Blanca" and is an iconic attraction in the region. The monolith juts high out of the sea, and human activity around it dates back to ancient Iberian and Roman times. After the rain on the day of my visit, I could see a layer of mist before the clouds and the sea. After rising, the sun suddenly appeared in front of my eyes, making the building clear with light and shadow, which is beautiful in any way.

La Muralla Roja, or "Red Wall" in Spanish, is a residential project in the small town of Calpe, Spain. The building was designed by post-modern architect Ricardo Poffey. The building draws inspiration from the Mediterranean tradition of the ancient city of Casbah, so it clearly continues the popular architectural characteristics of the Mediterranean region. The building features a series of interwoven staircases, terraces, Bridges and courtyards that are typical of the old Kasbah. Although the red-walled house is modern, you will feel its classical temperament when you walk through it.
Like the walls of a castle, the building itself has become an icon, inspired by centuries-old cultural archetypes and its intricate geometry. As you wind your way through the inner courtyard and up and down the stairs, every Angle is unique and charming.

Pure white sand beaches, clear blue skies, and the brilliant colors of nature are unique to Calpe. The building mimics the contour features of seaside mountains and cliffs, forming a clear, vertical and distinct architectural outline. The interior and exterior facades of the building are painted in bold colors that both celebrate and echo the purity of nature and provide a differentiated contrast with it.
The high red walls of the building shield a series of internal courtyards and staircases, and the red hue contrasts with the colors of the building's staircases, roof terraces and swimming pools. The buildings appear faded red and light blue, which echo the sandy soil and the blue sea and sky.
