National Monument - St Andre's Church, Singapore

St Andrew's Church is one of the oldest Catholic churches in Singapore, located in the city centre, next to the former Government House and Raffles Place.

The church was founded in 1835 by a Scottish missionary, rebuilt in 1862, and welcomed its first bishop, Dyfusson, in 1909, and has a dedicated bishop's seat in the church, becoming the most influential religious place in Singapore.


Its architectural style is a combination of Gothic and neoclassical elements, is a typical Romanesque architecture. A white Gothic church, high spire straight into the blue sky, like a tall and holy God's messenger, standing silently in the noisy city center, but let every person who sees her, the heart will involuntarily give rise to yearning and awe.

The clock tower is 63 meters high, the white wall is decorated with simple and beautiful sculpture patterns, and the lobby extends 55 meters, 16 meters wide and 22 meters high, giving people a sense of tall and solemn and religious solemnness.

The main facade of the church is a magnificent triangular overhang topped with a spire and rose Windows, and the interior has exquisite stained glass Windows, frescoes and sculptures, some of which were created by the famous Italian artist Cavaliere Rodolfo Nolli.

St Andre's Church dates back to the early 19th century, when Singapore was a British colony, and originally served the British and European Christians, but as Singapore gradually became a multicultural and religious city, the church began to attract a wider range of believers and became a place of cultural exchange. It attracts people from different religious and cultural backgrounds.
