Where do I go after school: Pharmacist's Garden

Moscow Apothecary Garden, also known as Moscow University Botanical Garden, is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Russia, originated in 1706, founded by Peter the Great. It initially focused on the cultivation and research of medicinal plants with the aim of improving medical conditions. With the development of botany and increased public interest in the natural sciences in the 19th century, the garden was opened to the public and the collection was gradually expanded to include rare plants from all over the world. Over the centuries, the garden has witnessed scientific, educational and cultural developments, gradually becoming the comprehensive garden of natural beauty, historical depth and scientific research that we see today.

The garden was designed by Britain's famous herbal Queen Jekka Mcvicar, a British horticulturist known as the "Queen of Herbs" who in 2016 was appointed by the Royal Horticultural Society as an ambassador for promoting health and well-being through gardening. Her Herb nursery, Jekka's Herb Farm, has won 59 RHS gold MEDALS.

The garden is inspired by the ancient Ayurvedic medical teachings that when a person is in poor health, doctors often ask the patient to sit in the herb garden and calm down to heal the disease. Jekka's herbal soothing garden is undoubtedly the continuation and perfect demonstration of this ancient medical tradition.

The garden is surrounded by apple trees, yew trees and hawthorn trees, providing a safe retreat for quiet contemplation, surrounded by local herbs and grasses, and winding paths lead visitors to the garden's central water feature, with a serpent staff sculpture of Asclepius, the ancient Greek god of healing, at the center of the background wall.
