The story of the Arco della Pace in Milan

The Gate of Peace is a triumphal arch in Milan in neoclassical style. The complete three-arch arch, decorated in a standard way, is the symbol of Milan's main road, relatively majestic, built in the 19th century during the reign of Napoleon, where it used to be part of the Roman wall. Later, the walls were rebuilt as part of the castle of Sforza, and the Gate of Peace was erected separately.

In 1807, Napoleon built this triumphal arch to celebrate his victory in the European War, and the door was not completed, Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo. In 1826, the ruler of Milan, Francesco, renamed the Arc de Triomphe the Gate of Peace, above which is a bronze statue of the Goddess of Peace holding an olive branch, standing on a chariot with six horses. Dark green bronze and white marble complement each other, have a special flavor.

The Gate of Peace was designed by Luis Caniola and dedicated to Napoleon in 1807. The construction of the Arc de Triomphe did not stop with the defeat of Napoleon, but continued as the people of Milan celebrated getting rid of Napoleon's rule, and was finally completed in 1838, named the "Peace Gate". In 1859, it was presented to the Emperor of Ostoria, as a congratulation of Italian independence, and its inscription was changed to the text of independence.

The surface of the building is carved with some representative events, and on top of it is the Goddess of Peace standing on a carriage of six horses, and it is said that the horses' heads were originally oriented towards this street back here, towards Paris, but after Napoleon's defeat, the Italians turned them so that they were oriented towards Paris.
