📍 Whales of Iceland Museum

⌛️ Business hours: 10am-5:00pm

Originally called the Whale Center, it was only a trial exhibition, and three years after its completion, as the number of exhibits increased, the museum's site needed to be expanded, so on the basis of an abandoned slaughterhouse in the city, it was converted into one of the most worthwhile exhibitions in northern Iceland today. The 1,600-square-meter exhibition hall displays skeletons of different species of whales and interesting knowledge.

Yesterday was the second day of Iceland Light Festival, the theme is Museum night, most of the museums are free, so I braved the blizzard to go to two museums, one of which is the Whale Museum.

Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. There are snowy mountains, auroras, the slow life of northern Europe. There is also a Whale museum (Whales of Iceland), which tells all about whales.

The Whale Museum of Iceland is the largest whale-themed museum in Europe, displaying 23 species of whales and dolphins, including a variety of cetaceans found in Icelandic waters. Models of Marine mammals, such as blue whales, sperm whales and dolphins, are all restored to 1:1 size and hung in the exhibition hall.

The museum offers a VR experience that allows you to dance with whales and dolphins. In addition, there will be a documentary on whale conservation at 3:30 p.m., which will give you a deeper understanding of the inner body of the whale with interactive screens in these mythological galleries. The newly opened Fin Whale Cinema features an 8-metre-high screen that rolls through the day a documentary about the ocean: Ocean of Noise.

The door was the Icelandic people's cold humor cute, a lot of funny decorative paintings, each is very funny, which let me the most shocked is the Icelandic team of tintin model and whale tintin, in short, is too interesting too cute! The perimeter is also very cute, and there is a moving tinky winky toy, took a video, here is not sent, in short, cute to explode.

At the museum, you will be immersed in blue lights and listen to the sound of whales, as if you are in the deep sea. The pavilion displays a variety of Marine life, including narwhal, killer whale, blue whale, humpback whale, sperm whale, etc. The whale models here are made to life size, so that you can truly appreciate their large bodies.

All the whale models in the museum are 1:1, and the photos are completely unable to capture the kind of spectacular that the naked eye can see. Many of the local people in the museum brought their children, and the children were also very excited.

You can also get a "special tour" by visiting the museum. In the harbor not far from the museum, you can take a cruise boat out to sea and see the huge whales emerging from the sea up close.

The Whale Museum cooperates with a number of Marine research institutions, including scientific knowledge and audio lectures from Marine biologists, and it also undertakes some Marine research projects.

One of the exhibition halls of the museum also shows the crisis facing Marine life, hoping to arouse visitors' awareness of protecting the ocean. Whale themed art workshops are held regularly to introduce visitors to Marine mammals in various forms.
