Day trip to Town: Cheese Trail

Ontario has launched the Oxford County Cheese Trail, a self-guided cheese tour that includes 30 cute little shops around town, perfect for visiting with friends or family! I went for half a day and chose 4 different places to visit! The specific information can be searched online, but I see the PDF on the Ontario website is not open now, and it is best to search the business hours of the store before going to oh! Closed many Sundays.

What is the Oxford County Cheese Trail?

The Oxford County Cheese Trail is a self-guided tour of 30+ stops featuring cheese, dairy and related products for visitors to experience. Visit cheesemakers, restaurants, local food producers, museums, artisans and boutiques for an enjoyable afternoon, day or weekend in Oxford. Oxford, the largest city on the trail and located at the intersection of Highway 401 and Highway 403, is an ideal place to visit as it is only 90 minutes from Toronto and two hours from the border crossings of Buffalo, Detroit and Port Huron.

1️⃣Mountainoak Cheese:
📍3165 Huron Road, New Hamburg

Gouda Cheese is a Dutch cheese, a hard, pale yellow cheese made from milk. I think it's a little softer than Parmesan, not too strong or too weak, which suits my taste. We were in Shakespeare, Ontario, about an hour outside Toronto, when we heard that Gouda from a nearby farm had won a World Gold Medal and stopped by his house.

The farmer was super enthusiastic and gave us a taste of all his cheeses. They are so delicious! I bought two chunks of this Gouda, and everyone loves it when we serve guests at home. I also got smoke chili, nettle, and cumin. By the way, his family has a lot of trophies!

Oh, and he also has fresh Quark and milk and eggs to buy! I personally love Quark, a yogurt-like cheese that's milder than yogurt and super healthy. Cheese bought in small rural shops is cheaper than in high-end supermarkets in the city. It saves money and supports local products.

It's a dairy farm owned by a very nice Dutch owner. It's not big but it has beef and all kinds of dairy products to buy and taste. I bought a bag of milk and small pieces of cheese, milk really good to drink, good smell!

2️⃣Udderly Ridiculous Farm Life
📍906200 Township Road 12, Bright

Originally attracted by the Cheese Trail, but found the Alpaca Walk in UdderlyRidiculous Farm, which requires advance booking and runs 75 minutes. The chance to feed the alpacas and walk them around the farm. The rural owner gave us a very careful introduction, including where is the alpaca minefield ️ ‼ ️ explains why the Alpaca Walk is full of boys because some of the female alpacas are pregnant and may not be able to move around easily, which may disturb them. The farm has real free run chicken, sheep, cattle.

There is ice cream made of goat's milk in the shop. Feel free to sample a small sample, and those who mind the smell of mutton can avoid lightning. My most recommended taste is dark chocolate& wine, which is very mellow and surprising! In addition to ice cream, there are some alpaca products, such as gloves, scarves, clothes. And my favorite doll, it feels so good! Body lotion and soap made from goat's milk are also highlights.

In addition, there are other farm experiences, interested partners can book on the website. Friendly tip: Remember to wear soil-resistant shoes and pants, farms can be very muddy after rain!

This farm features cute goats! You can book online in advance to do yoga with baby goats, feed them, or have a picnic with the grass horses. They also have plenty of goat dairy products like ice cream.

3️⃣Standard Tube Burgess Park

If you want to burn off some calories, you can walk the Trail in this park. No photos, but not many people, very quiet.

📍389 Dundas Street, Woodstock
Eat some chocolate at the last stop, you can sample in the store, buy hot chocolate and so on. The shop will introduce each handmade chocolate, bought the special lavender flavor is really delicious! There's also the Whisky & Roll Bakery next door, which was closed when I went, which was also delicious.
