Conditions such as rain, snow, and melting caused rapid erosion of the rock, resulting in this unique landscape of ridges and gullies.
Toronto's famous geological treasure, The Cheltenham Badlands, officially opened on April 29, and anyone who wants to see the red earth/red rock can get together.
The red rock here was formed 450 million years ago at the bottom of the ancient sea, shaped by the erosion of shale. In earlier years, it was free to enter, but due to damage caused by tourists walking on the rock formations, Redland was closed for maintenance from July 2015 to September 2018.
The highly exposed red shale is beautiful, unfortunately because tourists are too damaged to enter the red rock area to take photos.
Currently, visitors can't walk on the red rock formations, but they can stand on a viewing platform and admire the scattered red rocks, as well as walk through the forest.
