Nature's masterworks: ink paintings by Lake Eyre, Australia

Nature is an absolute master of art, carving the desolate Australian outback into exquisite ink paintings.

Lake Eyre, located in the outback of South Australia, is dry all year round, and under the sunlight, it seems that the whole world is white. Every three to 10 years, rain and floods gradually fill the salt lake, and everything begins to grow into a desert oasis, showing a variety of colors such as blue and pink.

Visitors can book a Wrightsair sightseeing plane tour to see the amazing color changes from the air.

Today, I temporarily finished the 16-day skiing in Australia in the southern hemisphere, and took the Southern Airlines flight back to Hangzhou from Melbourne. The plane traversed the entire Australian continent from south to north. My seat was above the front wing of the plane, when I saw the white Lake Eyre at an altitude of 10,000 meters, because the wing blocked the Angle of view, so I could not take a picture. At this time, it was the cabin service time, and I could not bypass the service car to the back of the plane to shoot, so I had to worry!

When the stewardess finally cleared a path for me, Lake Eyre was behind the plane and could not be photographed. While I was feeling sorry, I noticed the shadow of a dry river on the mainland below, the seasonal river's channels making beautiful lines in the rust-red earth.

I was looking through the window at the rear left side of the plane, and I took this exciting shot of the Australian outback with my iPhone.

This set of paintings by nature will help me feel a little better about missing Lake Eyre.

About Lake Eyre

Lake Eyre, named after Edward John Eyre, the first European to see the lake in 1840, is located in the desert region of central Australia. The Eyre Basin is a large internal river system. From 1974 to 1976, the lake reached a depth of 6 meters. When a lake is filled with water, it has the same salinity as sea water, but becomes highly saline as the lake water is evaporated.

Lake Eyre, located in the central region of Australia, is a seasonally shallow salt lake located 15 meters below sea level. When it is rarely full, it is the largest lake in Australia. Thus, its area has been recorded as 0-9500 km2.

Lake Eyre is characterized by the rarity of water in the lake. Most of the time the lake is just a dry lake bed, covered by a shimmering salt crust 20 centimeters thick.

Lake Eyre epitomises the spectacular beauty of the Australian outback. Because it is a white salt pool, silver glints in the sunlight. When the lake is full of water, it takes on a different kind of beauty. The flood brought lush greenery, flocks of birds, and different shades of pink and orange to the lake.
