Swim with whales

More than 30,000 humpback whales return to Western Australian waters between September and December each year, and one of the highlights of this tour is tracking the great migration of humpback whales
Ningaloo Reff in Exmourh is famous for its migratory whale sharks, and it also has the largest concentration of humpback whales in the Southern Hemisphere.

If you want to swim with humpback Whales or whale sharks, there are a number of operators in Exmouth that offer small group excursions. We went with a local operator, Ningaloo Whales shark-n-Dive, which requires booking online about a week in advance.

A bus will pick up guests at the hotel at 7am and return at 3pm. Children under the age of 13 can only watch whales and must not swim with whales, and must be accompanied by a guardian, who must not go into the water at all times.

After the boat leaves the dock, there will be two snorkeling experiences in Ningaloo Reff, the water of snorkeling is pure glass sea, white sand, very beautiful, see FIG. 12, at this time, all people can snorkeling in the afternoon, the sea is a little cold, close to 20 degrees, you need to wear wet clothes, it is worth snorkeling, sea turtles, devil rays, dolphins, Tongs, etc. Small sharks and schools of brightly-colored fish can be seen.

After a break from snorkeling, the boat will head into deeper waters to look for humpback whales, and it will also launch a drone to constantly find the right entry point, when the waves are high, it is most likely to seasick. All the people dressed and sat at the stern, listening to a dive guide: Go Go Go immediately into the water to chase whales, try snorkeling around them, not necessarily a success, because the whale has been swimming will not wait for you, so this time is non-stop gogogo water, in the whale swim found can not see the boat immediately chase, and then hear the instruction immediately again into the water... Going back and forth a lot, it's exhausting.

Fortunately, after several chases, we found whales breathing and whale sharks swimming for leisure. In the sea, they are so huge, they have a feeling of their own small, and nature is so magical.

After seeing the whale shark, the plane continued to look for the trace of the humpback whale, we were really lucky that day, soon found the whale, but watching whales and whale sharks are not the same, whale swim very fast, so the plane will guide the boat to the direction of the whale a few hundred meters away, the guide and the photographer led 7 people quickly into the water, in a straight line, the guide in the front of the line, the photographer at the end.

The guide will also take the walkie-talkie, and then the plane will guide the guide to swim in the direction of the whale, you have to follow the guide and keep a straight line to swim quickly to the guided place, and then the plane will count down in the sky and tell the guide that the whale is 100 meters away from us, 50 meters, 30 meters when the guide will tell you that you can put your head in the water, Then everyone starts putting their heads in the water and looking around for where the whale will come from.

But you were not allowed to swim around, you had to search on the spot, and after a few seconds you saw a huge black shape coming from right below me, and as the shadow got closer and closer I noticed that there were actually two whales that swam up and down from under our eyes, but then disappeared from our view.

The second time we went in, we saw two whales too, but this time they swam very close to the surface, and very close to us, so close that I could see the texture of their body and the barnacles around their mouth, and although they quickly disappeared into a deep blue again, the moment they appeared was really shocking

After the successful whale chase, the ship will rest, the crew will prepare a simple cold meal, at this time it is really cold and tired and feel exhausted... Lunch will be followed by one last glass sea snorkeling.

z The whole trip is very tightly arranged, and the captain and the crew will do their best to let everyone see the biggest creature in the ocean. Each and every one of them is a very professional free diver.

Tips: Chasing whales is very physical, we must have snorkeling experience, water should be relatively good, because the waves are really big, the body is relatively weak friends will be scared, Australians are also relatively rough, they are not afraid of cold and the pursuit of excitement, implied we according to their own physical conditions.
