Thanks so much. And vistas own app is much more Outlookexpress like and interacts with calendar and contacts.. I wonder what the catch is? Works fine, but on second day port 25 on SMTP was refused, changed it to 587.

I could get mail but not send. Those who already had an email address from before that time could keep on benefiting from this service for free (I'm still using it). The "Sent Mail" folders are not synchronized between Hotmail's web interface and your desktop email program.

Why not just use an instant email messenger like Pidgin or Instantbird or just send a normal email from your Hotmail account or G.mail?
