I scanned it with the fast intellectial scan and then the normal scan, didn't do the full scan. As with many similar situations in life the appropriate response is "Don't panic". if no joy resort to recovery software,,, the free ones and the cheap ones don't (in my experience) work too well... This helped me.

Type “chkdsk c:/f”(if you external hard drive is Drive C) into the Command Prompt window, you can replace the letter c if your external hard drive is not c. Then select the external hard drive to have a full scan (We take a 16 GB Kinston flash drive for example here).

Sometimes that information is difficult to come by and can be proprietary. probably chkdsk will fix you up though. I had various issues on my portable hard drive including "Must reformat before use" and also "the paramenter is incorrect" I believe the gist of it was that my hard drive wait.

Open This PC/Computer > Right-click the external hard drive > click Format > Start > OK. thank you... admin • September 21st, 2014 at 3:57 pm Hi Eduard, Try again but this time do not remove the drive. Hi thanks very much this worked.

using that solution I have been able to extract certain files to my desktop however I get another error while extracting other files I get a "input/output" error. This helped me. I hit EFI GPT to analyse and after quick search AND deep search, no partitions were found. and Press SHIFT-C and it should copy the files/folders there.

If not, considering whether you have made a backup, you should do a data restoration or turn to the other solutions offered in this post, especially the way to recover data P.S. Lets look at the data on that partition press P and you should see a list of files/folders in the partition.
