event id 11 cd rom error Carrollton, Virginia

PS: As a bonus tip – while I was troubleshooting, I had to reinstall Windows 7 couple of times on various HD drives. Comments: EventID.Net As per Microsoft: "This problem is typically caused by a failing cable that connects the drive to the computer". Still, as mentioned earlier - for most folks motherboard is fine and the culprit will be hard-drive that is getting old and about to fail. Always the same behavior. 0 LVL 91 Overall: Level 91 Windows 7 31 Message Active today Expert Comment by:nobus2011-01-25 yep -looks like a bad controller if you need one, maybe

I tried different sata cables, but it didnt help. Ever since I tried the new version of NERO it has been slow. So it would appear that the IDE port on the mother board doesn't play well with DVD drives but does OK with CD drives. This is a newish MB in an preexisting machine that had limited SATA ports.

The errors only stop when I manually eject the media.. I would then reboot and see what happens.

If you don't feel comfortable opening computer case and figuring out what is causing the heat, I would recommend taking it to technician to address the heat issue first. Adi R Jun 04, 2012 @ 09:18:02 There's no harm in trying the tip above from John I doubt it will help you much. I tried it with a different IDE cable and with only one device on the end of the cable with the jumper in the correct position.

Its a shame that neither the Seagate nor WD tools reported that issue and showed the SMART status always as green... I have tested it and it works good, no errors. Adi Rabinovich Dec 28, 2012 @ 16:06:06 Thanks for great comment! Stupid idiots in the IT….

Please try the request again. It's a typo. ---- I'll post back when I've tried the sata DVD drive. 0 LVL 91 Overall: Level 91 Windows 7 31 Message Active today Expert Comment by:nobus2011-01-14 yep There should be no performance hit on that. The intermittent hangs/freezes of 10-60 seconds were driving me nuts over the last month.

I uninstalled my drivers and then rebooted. m 0 l Related resources ATAPI EVENT 11 ERRORS and the additional blue screen - Tech Support XP Pro SP3 Bluescreens - kernel & atapi.sys errors - Tech Support PIO mode If you are in a budget crunch, one potential workaround is to slow down your HD to use different PIO. If it still happens, the bad news is that this is likely a disk controller error, which is especially problematic since nowadays disk controllers are built into the Motherboard.

It used to appear 2-5 times a minute and now I have not seen it once since last reboot. These are available free from manufacturers web-sites, if you know the brand, or generic HDD utilities are available from download.com. Share xxx666yyy777 1 August 2011 10:00:28 Thanks - HDTune did indeed help me solve the problem. I'll try testing a SATA DVD later today.. 0 LVL 91 Overall: Level 91 Windows 7 31 Message Active today Expert Comment by:nobus2011-01-01 imo - it has nothing to do So I ran full check & repair of Bad sectors, took few hours and found 3 corrupt files and some bad sectors. This MB has plenty of SATA ports so no problem moving to SATA, other than retiring a perfectly good IDE drive. 0 Write Comment First Name Please enter a first name

Register now! I have one question: Now I have dvd device on sata port 3, and Hard drive on sata port 6. I have never heard of such a thing, but perhaps it does exist out there somewhere. Thanks again!

Ridiculously, many people are likely affected by this issue, but unless they open Event Viewer and search for this event id 11, they will not realize that hanging is not “normal”

Turns out it was using slower PIO by virtue of it being older HDD.

After restarting the machine a few times, I thought to check the event log. Do I need them? m 0 l Can't find your answer ? It could be that port is sata 2 now, but most likely so is your hard-drive - and either way that ridiculously fast sata 3 is only relevant for newest SSD With all of the things I've tried. (Just tried booting to an XP partition and got the same error.) I'm guessing that the MB doesn't play well with IDE with DVD Heat itself is most likely caused by something else, such as faulty fan on the computer case (pretty cheap to replace).

I am just worried about losing data. m 0 l Lightness 25 February 2016 05:49:00 xxx666yyy777 said:Thanks - HDTune did indeed help me solve the problem. It reported a warning related to a SMART factor that could indicate a bad cable. Check the BIOS to see what is on Port 2.
