In fact, we highly discourage people to bootstrap as root-user! If you want a 64-bits native Prefix on pre-Lion systems, set your CHOST to x86_64-apple-darwin9 for Leopard, or x86_64-apple-darwin10 for Snow Leopard. Solaris 11 users have to replace the 2.10 by 2.11. If llvm-3.4.2 compilation fails with "ld: library not found for -lc++", make sure that xcode command line tools are used instead of full Xcode 7 package (sudo xcode-select -s /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools).

That just won't work. The following people contributed to the original document: Fabian GroffenThey are listed here as the Wiki history does not allow for any external attribution. Be conservative with CFLAGS! Doing the same right now.

If you don't know what your CPU is, or what this would be good for, just skip this note. Also, compiling gcc might expose flaky RAM (removing and reseating the RAM DIMMs might help there[0]).

Stuff compiled with older gcc's should run with newer libgcc*[0], but stuff compililed with a newer gcc might not run with the older libgcc*.
