I had 2 HD's in the system and plan to trash the bad one, only using the 2nd HD in the system once it's reformatted. This would indicate no problem with the hard drive. It's not as thorough, and it doesn't perform the same deep analysis and recovery as SpinRite, but it can, in fact, recover from some types of hard disk failures.
