One of my favorite retro YouTube gaming shows is "Continue?" (search ContinueShow) on YouTube. Note that in extremely rare cases, you may even be able to read a disk in excellent shape from 10.49 up to 10.79mm, although it is unlikely based on my experiences. And, unless I read incorrectly, they were actually recommending cleaning the disks with rubbing alcohol or canned air? If you have dirty discs, you have a dirty heads.

Maybe one day I'll get a working Disk System and games...ReplyDeleteSeanAugust 24, 2011 at 7:38 PMGlad to know that it is possible to emulate FDS games, though like Skyrunner I prefer I'm not sure if it's possible, but I think some programs are more sensitive to precision tuned FDSs than others programs. This is especially true for non-first party disks (pirates).

Each block that is corrupt will have an X or sometimes some other weird random character. I'm not so sure about the belt, I didn't open up the drive to check it...maybe I'll try that, but most of the disks seem to work, so I don't know

I'd have to add a mod board to it or find an older version of the drive with no write protection. They kind of go hand-in-hand.If you clean a floppy drive with a Q-tip, especially one as rare as an FDS drive, you have to be very careful.
