However having followed these instructions the lens has clicked back in place and now seems to be working perfectly again!! Anybody have any ideas? Instead, would recommend repeated cleaning's with compressed air around the lens, and also in any openings of the camera (memory card slot, battery door, etc.). Check it out by clicking here.

If I had listened to my instincts this wouldn't have happened in the first place! said... I had a powershot do the same thing to me 2 years ago, so I got that out and tried the process out on that one too, but it didn't work You will hear a "click" as it pops back in place.

Fix #2: If the camera's batteries ran down completely while its lens was still open, the camera may show a lens error or not start properly when new batteries are installed. Out of desperation and abandoned by Canon, I decided to fix the thing myself. I dropped my canon powershot SD800IS in the middle of my european vacation. Wird verarbeitet... Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Note that this problem applies to ALL cameras with telescopic lens barrel (optical) zoom.
