Didn't work, either, which is when I strace'd it and saw what it was trying to do, then went off and fixed it. This is because Firefox is still running in the background, doing housekeeping tasks and saving your data before quitting completely.

Rebooting always fixed it, but I'd had enough, and wanted to fix it without rebooting.
