I am asking You for advise with the NOUVEAU legancy Nvidia graphic cards driver for my old PC. Yes. If you'd like to contribute content, let us know. Typical reasons to use nouveau-drm are very new graphics cards that don't work with the code in the kernel yet, but that does not apply to your case.

Looking at CONFIG_DRM we can dee what it depends on and what it sets. To get Xorg running on your system, you have to have the following packages emerged:nvidia-kernelnvidia-glxAnd did you add nvidia to the module.autoload.d file for your kernel?- David ravenvii: The thing is, Just follow that thing to the letter. Keep up the good work. If you set nouveau to built-in instead of module in menuconfig, does that change anything? The 310.19 NVIDIA driver will ignore
NVRM: this GPU. But it is. * CONFIG_MXM_WMI: is not set when it should be.

When I modprobe nvidia, I get "FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.12-gentoo-r6/video/nvidia.ko: No such device".There's nothing interesting in my xorg.conf, I haven't edited it at all. Check out the Bridge Linux Translation Project. °C Member Posts: 14 Karma: +0/-0 Re: Nvidia proprietary driver install script « Reply #2 on: December 06, 2012, 02:24:04 PM » Yes I It is very nice to meet You and very nice to be there Quote: The messages like ..."No such device"...often mean that the module loaded but found no suitable hardware. To make it load when booting, it needs to be added to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 file or 2.4 if you are using a 2.4 kernel.

the patch is now in portage. Anyone able to spot what must be an obvious mistake? On the previous version I have made quick test. It's complaining about failing to load kernel > module. All went well, and I rebooted, booted into my gentoo installation. It's complaining about failing to load kernel module. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. I know that sometimes variables are commented & sometimes they are missing. I really wanted to use the nouveau driver ;-( This is the only driver compiled for X-Org. This usually produces a broken kernel and its very hard to detect what went wron and even harder to fix. Entry deleted from font path. (WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/Type1/" does not exist. I am scared that the new kernel generation will NOT be optimised for such old PC.

But the framebuffer issue was an even bigger issue than I thought... check the log and figure out what went wrong.

Secondly, look at dmesg whether there is any problem with DRM or nouveau or something else using the graphics card. What does it say, exactly? It has no effect that I can see on what my wife does with the machine. It MIGHT work.
