ford ranger error code 224 Pinetops, North Carolina

any other way to test??? It likely has a dual vane crank sensor to provide base timing for the spark plugs & a camshaft sensor for fuel injector timing. It started about 2 months ago and is progressively getting worse. Cleared codes, played the run it till it dies cycle 6 times or so pulled codes and 222 is gone but 224 is back.

Most of the time they brake off as you are tacking them off.If you can get an angle drill with a short drill bit you can do it with out removing Truck runs great and have great spark coming from both coils. could be the computer going out too. To check for spark.

Did a bunch more reading online, that 224 can also indicate a bad coil I guess the IDM (ignition diagnostic monitor) inside the ICM can detect that. On one of the intermittent lines, I pulled the plug wire from the top of the coil, thereby forcing the spark to jump from coil to wire. My problem: Intermittent skipping / bogging / lack of power ect. All of the code numbers in my OBD-II Manual start with a letter followed by four digits. Just to narrow things down a wee bit. Helped, but didn't fix it. Then an 02 sensor.

Good to hear the info here proved useful in your making an "educated guess" & that so far it seems to be bearing fruit!!!! __________________ 99 Ranger XLT 4dr 4x2 4.0L I took out the ICM and had it tested, came back good. The coipacks are supplied with B+ 12 volts when we turn the ignition switch on & the ICM switches the coilpacks ground connection to cause them to spark at the right Take it off and have it tested.

You can remove the wire from the plug and put a spark tester in it and crank the engine. If you do not have this tool you can use a screwdriver in Any ideas on what to check next. No driveability issues so am wondering if the ICM could be bad like yours. The existing one had a questionable connector altho it ohm'd OK and had continuity. Check engine came back on same code 224, checked ICM it's good. It was covered in oil and grit, apparently my valve cover has a small leak and oil is running in between the timing belt covers.Cleared codes, ran it for a few Territories Canada BOLO: Stolen _________ Events - Recreation - Survival Events Forum (Cruises - Trail Rides - Shows - etc)

With the new computer, FINALLY only had one code left, that 224, and a continuous check engine light. I tried pulling codes for my 94 and got the code 224. you could try swapping it to see if it's your computer giving you the problems. + 0 - #10 05-09-2009 Thread Starter angus37 Member I am: Ron Crummett That stuff sure can run a guy around in circles, though!

Mayday ! if it's a manual transmission you have a cam position sensor(or syncronizer), which could also cause a fault in the ignition system if not timed correctly, you also have a crank Wird geladen... I haven't driven it for a few months (registration expired, need smog to re-register, smog fails due to CEL) but when I was driving it about it was this way too
