she did end up getting the pics recovered, think it was at the camera store where she bought the camera. The lens are open and will not close. I could never use regular akaline batteries in my E550 more than a few minutes, but the rechargables work for days of continuous use. The lense does not move outwards after I turn the power on, nor does the plastic sliding screen close when I turn the camera off.

I'm leaving for school again in a month! Sure enough it did. But after changing batteries and/or turning it off and on, it seemed to be ok. When i got it yesterday, The zoom worked, my guess is that a gear inside the mechanisms either broke or are stuck.

I don't think I'll be buying Fuji again. ALWAYS make sure your fingers do not touch the front of the lens when you power on the camera. The only problem is I never dropped it, and was very careful. I sent the camera back to get repaired, and enclosed a copy of my paypal recipt as proof-of-purchase.
