Perform the database upgrade from the command line by execututing 'php update.php' The database upgrade works just fine, it completes without error but when I try and hit the site afterwards Please file one at http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/ or, if you have already filed one, please point me to it. What I do? I filed one for you now: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/32762 Please join us in Friday's bug triage if you can: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.science.linguistics.wikipedia.technical/57017 Thanks!

Prepare that new directory: copy your current LocalSettings.php from the old directory, copy any installed extensions and custom skins (if any)." This, however, is buried way down at the bottom and I hadn't done so mostly because I didn't know about the Bugzilla site. I haven't seen one if you have. I could solve this by editing assorted files and changing "Namespace" -> "MWNamespace" (which is what MediaWiki did by version 1.13). This may indicate a bug in the software. Almost always, someone else has had the same or very similar issue you're having.

I think it might be related to a new version of PHP again. Upgrade time came around and I put off the project. I hope that doesn't break anything important. See Manual talk:Upgrading - "Cannot redeclare wfprofilein()" for the solution. thanks!

At this point, I'm probably going to throw in the towel. I consider this penance for my years of wiki neglect. It appears that this is the "profiler" code, which has moved into /includes/profiler/ from /includes/ Deleting the old versions, and the file StartProfiler.php at the top level fixes this. A StartProfiler.sample is included, which can be copied to StartProfiler.php.

now that I renamed file, I tried running script thingy again. But another Mediawiki has had some problems going direct from 1.17 to 1.18 - I took out Recaptcha and now see this: *Fatal error*: Cannot redeclare wfprofilein() (previously declared in /xxxxxxxx/public_html/includes/profiler/Profiler.php:14) Gordo -- Gordon Joly gordon.joly [at] pobox http://www.joly.org.uk/ Don't Leave Space To The Professionals! _______________________________________________ MediaWiki-l mailing list MediaWiki-l [at] lists https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/mediawiki-l mhershberger at wikimedia Dec1,2011,4:04PM Post #11 of 17 (6647 views) Permalink Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Then try downloading the release branch version of that extension, and if still no luck, the trunk release.

Perform a lftp mirror operation in order to send all the files up to the server. Instead, to replace the existing files while decompressing and do this in one step, use this command: $ tar xvzf mediawiki-1.18.0.tar.gz -C /path/to/your/wiki/ --strip-components=1 **** YMMV, Gordo -- Gordon Joly gordon.joly Darlington wrote: >> In defense of the existing instructions, there's this: >> >> https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading#Can_my_wiki_stay_online_while_it_is_upgrading.3F >> > Point taken.

According to this:StartProfiler.php isn't a core file, it is created by the sysadmin if it is needed. This library book is 42 years overdue! Going Forward For all I know, I did everything described here in the hardest way possible. But sometimes, it's all you can reasonably do.

When the MultimediaWiki was first live again, it loaded, but ever so slowly. Due to changes in 1.18, a StartProfiler.php from a previous version will be incompatible.
