Returning the camera to FujiFilm I contacted FujiFilm through their website on the 19th of May, describing how this problem had slowly become obvious. However, that was not to be. I'm hoping this correction will prompt some helpful replies. Thank you!!

I tried pulling the lens out, and it worked! i would just say to keep messing with it until it works. OK, and maybe pigs will fly? well, by the 7th (10th?) time, I tried hitting it from the top right side, and, miraculously everything fell back into place.

The results were in any case as shown above. Make sure it's dry before you reseat it, and reassemble the camera. I have a Coolpix 4800; I jammed the lens in an adapter during digiscoping. Sharp results :)19Sharpening Xtrans threads.
