Think about it for a few minutes and you'll understand. (Or you might lose your mind. Isn't that what you're trying to find out? Any help in tracking down the source of the error would be appreciated. Assuming they allow zone-transfers, this could work.

Well, can you actually look up the name "localhost"? If they have their NS set up without zone transfer restrictions or with your ip´s allow-transfer, yes. This is done by our ISP. I am not sure which Bind I have but I also do not know how to upgrade it.
