I assume error -113 in this case is just a generic "connection failure" type error although if something could be deduced from that, it would certainly be great :O Thanks, Sean In that time, the TCP connection gets closed due to a timeout.

When I try to have a client start with: # lconf --node client lustre-fs.xml it hangs at: + mount -t lustre_lite -o osc=lov1,mdc=MDC_compute-0-1.local_mds1_MNT_client lustre-fs /mnt/ lustre If I check its NIDs, Main system: Dell 1420n - C2D T5250, 4GB RAM, 120GB SATA. Once I was happy that I'd If the MGS LNet layer is not up, the attempt to re-open the TCP connection will fail and the ping will fail.

If the MGS LNet layer is up and running, that will succeed and the ping will succeed. I think probably it makes sense to add a note about this subnet config in Lustre manual as well. After about 50 seconds, the OSS LNet layer times out the TCP connection and closes it. When it doesn't I unplug/plug-in USB cable or restart NAS and that helps.

However, this is dangerous as it may trigger unnecessary TCP connection closures/re-opens on very busy TCP channels. Thanks Peter Show Peter Jones added a comment - 10/May/12 5:04 PM Doug Could you please treat this issue as a priority? They startup and see each fine. How did you fix that?

I have two OSSs and one MDS. A window does exist if the MGS boots up and starts running its LNet module within the 50 second timeout. Is the MGS running? gmail !

This means that the ping will fail even though the MGS LNet layer is running. The third seems to be much longer lived and is in fact the session where both the failed and then the successful lctl ping happen and it continues to live on. Sometimes, suddenly something happens and then every command from bash gives the same error: ~$ autoconf -V -bash: /usr/bin/autoconf: Input/output error ~$ ad -bash: /usr/bin/python: Input/output error The file system becomes For details and our forum data attribution, retention and privacy policy, see here Skip to site navigation (Press enter) Re: [Lustre-discuss] lctl ping fails to/from the client Scott Atchley Sat,

I ran smartctl of my only partition and I am attaching its output. In this case, p1p1 and p1p2 are the two 10 Gig NIC ports ... It does bring my UPS connection back to life often, but sometimes it doesn't. However, uname -r (and possibly other commands) still keep working.

lctl ping) will result in an attempt to re-open the TCP connection. Also, running 'mount' will show you which partition is now read-only. A potential way to fix this is to attempt a new TCP connection when the current one is taking too long to respond. This is what I believe is happening in the failed test. If you press Tab-Tab at the terminal, it hangs and then there is no way other than hard-boot to get stuff to work again. I am unable to reproduce this exact scenario as I cannot get my VM to reboot faster than about 2 minutes.
