The shutting down issue never stopped me from booting up, but this new 11.10 upgrade was a bad idea. I'm considering wiping the machine and reinstalling 11.10 from scratch, but color me very disappointed. Is it possible to bypass this by providing arguments directly while running the command? That is all I did.
