gentoo rsync error code 20 Woodland Hills, California

Comparing timestamps, your server's latest update is about 5 hours older than Steadfast's, so things must be changing frequently in portage these days! 17k changes in 5 hours... Didn't know then that you only need a few to work with it, and I still do not use most of them. You'll probably get better results if you pick a handful of servers that are close to you and not overloaded. Because emerge jobs produce copious amounts of output that is difficult to read as it scrolls past. Ireland, for instance. * I'm serious. I think it only will if you have an unclean system. >Moreover, they do > not contain the report of the number of configuration files that need > updating by. >

I am using this sometimes when another person has trouble with their Gentoo installation. Do you means the autoclean? a full list of rsync \ mirrors can be found somewhere on the gentoo site. They also do not contain the results of the "pretend depclean" that occurs at the end of an emerge job.

The output of a batch job contains the lot. Contact Gossamer Threads Web Applications & Managed Hosting Powered by Gossamer Threads Inc. You run your emerge --sync jobs by hand?!!! I used superglue to fix everything and now it's all good.

Now I use screen a lot, sometimes I use screen inside a screen session. [screen summary] Now that's a nice summary! Hi, I noticed this error when I try to sync my portage tree: --------------- obelix ~ # emerge --sync >>> Starting rsync with rsync://134.68.220.73/gentoo-portage... >>> Checking server timestamp ... You may want to try it. > If it doesn't work, then you know something is wrong on your end, if it > does, then there is something weird going on. People pay good money to provide that service to us.

I assume that this problem occurs even when trying to sync the server alone, rather than concurrently with the other two machines. You are selfishly and pointlessly wasting > the rsync.us.gentoo.org mirror network's resources, and your own > bandwidth as well. > > Run rsyncd somewhere. As do the log files in $PORT_LOGDIR, they contain exactly the same output you would see in the terminal. Either try >>> mirrorselect -i -r -o>> /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf to automatically >>> find a suitable rsync server, have a look here for your nearest rsync >>> server and set it up manually: I much prefer the cron daemon or at >>> daemon >>> to send me the output as email, so I can scroll backwards and >>> forwards through it at my leisure. just search for it. I sure you'll wonder how you lived without it.

Weird things happen. Q: What is the most annoying thing in e-mail? I don't *think* the default is as low as 100 lines. From my make.conf: >>> >>> SYNC="rsync://rsync21.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" >>> >>> By the way, they don't limit the number of syncs you can do each day >>> either. >>> >>> Dale >>> >>> :-) I'm sure you have a good reason for wanting to do things your way, and I do not claim mine is better.
