I can only choose from some low resolutions, not the 1600x1200. It makes no sense to me because during the delay the computer was fully usable via SSH. It showed the same success rate as my box did with this CRT. I've tried several upstream kernels, but had no success. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. You're right - I don't have an xorg.conf file (not one I can find anyway). I've had a look at the page. There are two bugs being discussed here 1) Failure because the kernel requires the whole EDID to be valid and cannot use a valid base EDID if the extensions are corrupt. It needs to be run as root or with sudo and you need the package "read-edid" installed.

That does sound somewhat far-fetched for me.
